Legion baseball splits on road, returns home for two

By Sun Advocate

Helper Legion settled into a third place tie with Cyprus after splitting on the road with two Wasatch Front teams.
In the July 9 matchup against Murray, Helper struggled to put back to back hits together throughout the game.
“We left runners at second and third three different innings without scoring,” coach Jeff Cisneros commented. “We really didn’t play with much energy.”
Helper lost the game 4-1 with five hits and two errors. Murray committed three errors but pooled together eight hits.
The following day, Helper defeated Taylorsville, which is currently tied for first in the league with Kearns.
Dustin Howa triggered the offense, reaching base four times and scoring two runs in the 8-4 win. Joe Via and Morgan Bates added two hits, including an RBI double each.
Troy Grundy lead Helper from the mound, giving up only four hits to the Taylorsville, a team which Cisneros said is considered to be the best hitting club in the league.
Helper currently stands at 7-3 in league play.
The team will host Bountiful tomorrow for a double-header beginning at 5 p.m., followed by Friday’s home game against West at 6 p.m.
Four Helper players also represented the team at the annual all-stars game at Ken Price field in Murray on July 10. Mike Smith, Troy Grundy, Jamal Lewis and Wes Baletka all participated for Helper.
