The ninth hole of the Carbon Country Club golf course gives golfers a good opportunity to improve their score before heading into the clubhouse or continuing into the back nine.
The short, dog-leg right is a 347 yard par four with water on the right hand side of the fairway. According to course professional Tom King, the ninth hole is a great hole to finish on if a golfer needs a birdie.
The best play off the tee is a 200 to 210 yard shot with a mid to long iron. Hitting the tee shot right to the dog leg and not through it sets up a good second shot. However, for those golfers who must have birdie, a high fade* with driver that lands on the green or just short is optimal.
King said the flat, wide green holds true to appearances.
“What you see is what you get,” he indicated.
If the pin is tucked in the front left of the green, King reminds golfers to hit enough club to avoid the front left bunker. There is also out-of-bounds behind the green.
*fade– A term used to describe the slight turning of the ball from left to right (by a right-handed player) at the end of its flight. From right to left for a left-handed player.
draw shot– A controlled “hook” used to get in position for the next shot or get out of trouble. A shot that curves from left to right. To play a shot so that it curves owing to sidespin from right to left with a right-handed player. Conversely from right to left for a left-handed player.
