Summer Lunch Program – Carbon School District will serve summer lunch beginning Tuesday, June 1 and ending Friday, July 30. Meals are served at East Carbon High School, Wellington Elementary, Castle Valley Center and Sally Mauro Elementary between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. These meals are served free to anyone 18 years old and younger. Sunnyside/East Carbon Community Daze – July 9 & 10 at the Sunnyside Park. Events include Breakfast in the Park, parade, booths, food, entertainment, RJ the Clown, prizes, horseshoe tournament, open air cinema, clilmbing wall, giant slide, bounce house, obstacle course, boxing or joust, dance after the rodeo and more. Educational Opportunity Center – CEU has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice as well as assist students with a variety of services including financial aid application, college course selection and completing their GED if needed. The service is free and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. Summer Literacy Workshop Program – Volunteer Connections is hosting its 5th annual Workshop Program in conjunction with Price City Library sponsored by United Way. Registration begins June 15 at Price City Library at 10:30 a.m. Childen ages 4-10 are eligible for this program. For more information contact KC Jo Jones at 637-8911. Helper City Community Development Committee – All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium. This committee has been formed by Volunteers to support community development in Helper City and to work on ideas for the new Helper City Community Pool Project.
Free Legal Clinic – In cooperation with the Seventh District Court, Utah Legal Services is holding a Free Legal Clinic on the fourth Monday of each month at the Seventh District Courthouse located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Early Head Start Summer Fun Pageant – July 16, registration is $10 per child and you must be registered by June 24 from 8:00-10:00am, and 3:00-6:00pm at Early Headstart Building, 745 E. 200 S. in Price. The pageant is for ages pre-natal to 12, age categories as follows: birth-36 mos., 3-5 years, 6-8 years, 9-12 years. Events for ages birth-18 mos. include cutest hair, prettiest eyes, biggest smiles and cutest giggle. Events for ages 19 mos.-12 years include beach wear, Sunday’s best, talent (2 min. max), cutest PJs. There is also going to be a prize for cutest pregnant belly: be creative and do whatever to your belly. Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Foster Grandparents – Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Food Handler’s Classes – There will be Food Handler’s Classes taught in Price June 23 at 9 a.m, 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District health Department. Classes will be taught in Castle Dale June 17 at 4 p.m and 7 p.m. at the Health Department located at 25 W. Main St. The Classes will be two hours in length and the cost is $10.00 to take the test. Frontier Project – Local Family Support Group. R.O.A.R. will be meeting every third Thursday in Carbon County. Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 10 North 200 East. Carbon County Animal Services – Residents are encouraged to bring recycled newspapers and aluminum to the office at 3360 S. 225 West, Price. Donations will be used for homeless pets.

Parenting for teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Frank Dalpaiz American Cancer Society Golf Tournament – The tournament is Saturday June 26, 2004 and will begin at 8:00 a.m. Shotgun start. There is something new this year and that is the American Cancer Society Week of Golf. June 21-26 will be considered the ACS Week of Golf and for every 18 hole round with cart that you play during this week there will be a donation.
