Summer Lunch Program – Carbon School District will serve summer lunch beginning Tuesday, June 1 and ending Friday, July 30. Meals are served at East Carbon High School, Wellington Elementary, Castle Valley Center and Sally Mauro Elementary between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. These meals are served free to anyone 18 years old and younger. Adults are $2.50. Carbon School District is an equal opportunity employer.
Local Workshop Offered – “Exploring Utah’s Forests and Wetlands” is a Project Learning Tree and Project WET workshop being offered June 10 & 11 at Hunting Elementary School from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It is open to all educators, pre-service educators, parents or local community leaders that would like to learn more about Utah’s forest and wetland resources. Cost is $30 which includes WET and PLT materials. A Utah State University credit is available. Educational Opportunity Center – CEU has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice as well as assist students with a variety of services including financial aid application, college course selection and completing their GED if needed. The service is free and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. Summer Literacy Workshop Program – Volunteer Connections is hosting its 5th annaul Workshop Program in conjunction with Price City Library sponsored by United Way. Registration begins June 15 at Price City Library at 10:30 a.m. Childen ages 4-10 are eligible for this program. For more information contact KC Jo Jones at 637-8911. Summer literacy will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 15-17, June 22-24, June 29-30 and July 1, July 13-15, July 20-22, and July 27. Helper City Community Development Committee – All interested parties are invited to attend the Community Development Committee Meeting of Helper City every 2nd and 4th Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the Helper Civic Auditorium. This committee has been formed by Volunteers to support community development in Helper City and to work on ideas for the new Helper City Community Pool Project.
Free Legal Clinic – In cooperation with the Seventh District Court, Utah Legal Services is holding a Free Legal Clinic on the fourth Monday of each month at the Seventh District Courthouse located at 149 East 100 South in Price. The clinic is from 11 am until 2 pm and service is provided on a “first come, first serve” basis. Clinic attendees may call (435) 636-3400 before attending to check for any scheduling changes.
Price City & Cliffview Cemetery Clean Up – Price City & Cliffview Cemeteries will begin Memorial Day decoration clean up on Tuesday, June 8 at 7:00 a.m. Anyone wishing to save their decorations or anything else should remove ‘EVERYTHING’ including artificial flowers, stands, shepherd hooks and wires prior to that date otherwise ‘ALL’ items will be discarded.
Entries for Art Show Wanted – This is a call for entries for the Canyon River Runners Art Show, showing in the John Wesley Powell River History Museum, 885 E. Main in Green River starting June 1 through June 30. Theme: original paintings, all media, and sculptures of river runners, landscapes, wildlife, and outdoor activities related to canyon areas, historical and present time. Art must be brought to the Musuem May 21-25 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Awards will include ribbons, Mayor’s Award and Best of Show. No entry fee, 10% commission on sale of art. Pick up dates are July 1-3 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Casa Volunteers Needed – Each year hundreds of children in Carbon and Emery counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Foster Grandparents – Volunteers of America-Utah needs grandparents to join the Foster Grandparent Program team. Foster Grandparents receive a modest non-taxable stipend of about $200 per month. Individuals who are at least 60 years old; love children; have a limited income, and extra time to share may qualify. FGP volunteers serve 20 hours per week in local schools, and receive a daily meal, a yearly physical, accident and liability insurance while on duty, and transportation to and from the school. Food Handler’s Classes – There will be Food Handler’s Classes taught in Price June 23 at 9 a.m, 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. at Southeastern Utah District health Department. Classes will be taught in Castle Dale June 17 at 4 p.m and 7 p.m. at the Health Department located at 25 W. Main St. The Classes will be two hours in length and the cost is $10.00 to take the test. Frontier Project – Local Family Support Group. R.O.A.R. will be meeting every third Thursday in Carbon County. Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 10 North 200 East. Parenting for teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Frank Dalpaiz American Cancer Society Golf Tournament – The tournament is Saturday June 26, 2004 and will begin at 8:00 a.m. Shotgun start. There is something new this year and that is the American Cancer Society Week of Golf. June 21-26 will be considered the ACS Week of Golf and for every 18 hole round with cart that you play during this week there will be a donation.

Golf Tournament Fund Raiser – Carbon School Foundation is hosting a golf tournament to raise funds for the children of Carbon schools. The tournament is scheduled for June 12 with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. This will be a 4 man scramble format with a minimum 45 combined team handicap. There will be prizes for the winning teams, hole prizes, a raffle and lunch provided.
Vacation Bible School – The First Baptist Church of Wellington will be holding an exciting week of Vacation Bible School June 14 – 18, at 1285 East Main in Wellington.
