Jacob Perez hands off to Bryan Stewart during the boys 400 meter relay at the region meet. Stewart was one of two Carbon athletes to collect points for the Dinos at the state championship at Brigham Young University.

Carbon seniors Brittany Pollastro, Bryan Stewart and Dustin Hurst showed that experience aids performance at the state track meet at Brigham Young University on May 14 and 15.
The trio were the only athletes to pick up points for the Carbon High team in their events.
Pollastro, who barely had time to trade her softball uniform for track attire, placed second in the girls shot put, fourth in the javelin and eighth in the discus.
The Lady Dino first basewoman also showed her throwing prowess on the diamond as Carbon made their mark at the 3A state softball tournament.
Stewart ranked with the best state hurdlers, placing sixth in the 110 meter and third in the 300 meter.
According to coach Stewart Foster, the outcome of the hurdle events came down to the the few meters.
“The finish in both races was almost a blanket finish,” he commented.
Hurst managed an eighth place finish in the shot put on what Foster considered to be an off day for the athlete.
Other top finishing Dinos included Melanie Madsen, Amie Stewart, Paul Goodrich and Jacob Burrows.
Madsen increased her 16th place standing in the distance races to 11th in the 1600 meter and 10th in the 3200 meter.
Stewart missed the long jump finals by one inch and had an impressive time in the 100 meter hurdle preliminaries.
Goodrich, a freshman, entered the 3200 meter run seeded 14th. Prior to the race, his coaches had challenged him to improve his time and beat at least one person.
“He not only improved his time to 10:42, but beat two people and was closing in on a couple of others. We were really impressed at his maturity and determination for a ninth grade boy,” Foster noted.
Burrows placed 10th in the 800 meter run in a personal best time of 2:05.
