Reports from local guardsmen to family members during the weekend indicate the military personnel have apparently been advised that the unit may not return to Utah as initially planned in May. Instead, the guardsmen may be redeployed to Iraq for up to 120 days. Officially, Major Lorraine Januzelli, a military service spokesperson, explained that the Utah National Guard headquarters had not received notification of any change in plans by Monday afternoon. Guardsmen left the area last February and were supposed to return in October, but the deployment was extended through April 2004. Members of other U.S. military branches from Carbon County are also serving in Iraq and Afganistan.
