The College of Eastern Utah Eagles crossed over into the second half of the baseball season with a win over defending national champions Community College of Southern Nevada .
The Eagles opened the four-game series with a 4-2 victory over the Coyotes.
CEU head coach Scott Madsen said the team finally put up the runs to assist winning sophomore pitcher Kyle Tash.
Tash, who Madsen said has been the team’s most consistant pitcher this season, allowed one run in the first and the seventh.
CEU, meanwhile, added its four runs throughout the game.
The following three games did not fall in Eastern Utah’s favor, though.
Southern Nevada spent the rest of the series punishing the Eagles for the first-game win.
Final scores were 6-2. 9-1 and 9-1 respectively.
Madsen said that once the Coyote runs started, they never stopped.
“We couldn’t put the fire out,” he added.
The outing was an improvement over the last series between the two teams, when Southern Nevada swept the weekend.
Eastern Utah is 6-18 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play after the weekend.
The Coyotes maintain in a tie for second place positioning with College of Southern Idaho. Both teams are 17-7.
CEU will play conference leader Dixie this weekend in St. George.
Dixie took all four games at the teams’ last meeting.
