Louis and Claudette Mele were named as the Utah High School Activities Association super fans during the state wrestling tournament and awarded a plaque for their support of Utah’s youth.
Carbon High School also recognized the pair of sport enthusiasts with a plaque from the student body and the faculty.
Both Louis and Claudette are graduates of Carbon High. The couple has lived in Carbon County most of their lives, leaving for school and military service.
Both attended University of Utah where Louis played baseball and basketball for the Utes.
They then moved to Vernal for six years where Louis began teaching and coaching.
Louis remains active in many aspects of the Carbon athletic community and Claudette said she has grown to love athletics because of the constant exposure.
“I’m one of those wives that if my husband isn’t home, I still watch Monday Night Football,” she commented.
In addition to supporting Carbon athletes, the Meles said they also cheer for Uintah High School where there grandson Levi Mele took a 2004 state wrestling title.
