Carbon’s Troy Grundy takes a throw from left-handed pitcher Mike Smith to end the second inning.

Even though the Dinos never scored after the first inning, five runs were enough to put Carbon out of Lehi’s reach during Tuesday’s ball game at Carbon’s diamond.
Carbon entered the bottom of the first trailing 0-1 after two hits and an error allowed a Pioneer run.
The Dinos were selective at the plate, though, taking advantage of Lehi’s starting pitcher.
Five walks and two base hits, including a Dan Davis single and a fence-grazing double by Troy Grundy, prompted the five Dino runs.
By the time Lehi changed pitchers, the damage had been done even though Carbon pitcher Mike Smith was the only other Dino to get a hit in the game.
Lehi attempted to crawl back in, scoring a run in the third and another in the fourth.
The Pioneers surged again in the fifth inning, leading off with a single and following with a walk.
Left-handed pitcher Adam Martinez took over on the mound.
The next Lehi batter hit a sharp line drive to Davis at third, who completed a double play with second baseman Chris Hatch.
The Lehi rally ended when Martinez caught a Lehi runner off base. The runner was tagged out after a short rundown.
Martinez got the save, finishing the game with one hit and one walk after his teammates combined for a second double play in the sixth.
Smith got the win, allowing four hits, three walks and three runs.
Carbon is 2-0 in Region 8 play. Lehi drops to 1-2.
The Dinos will play North Sanpete on the road April 2.
Carbon will then host Delta on April 6. Game time is 3:30 p.m. on the diamond behind Carbon.
