Sixth grader Travis Richardson of Castle Heights Elementary has advanced to the western region Casting Kids fishing competition in Tulsa, Okla. on April 22.
Richardson, who has been fishing since he was young, learned his casting technique from spinner fishing on streams with his father, Todd Richardson.
After winning the local tournament in Price on Feb. 7, he competed in the 11-14 year old division at the state finals in Salt Lake City, where he also went away as the top caster in his group.
If Richardson wins in Oklahoma, he will be invited to the national finals in North Carolina for a chance to win prizes and scholarship money.
Richardson said he was kind of nervous but will have his parents along for the trip. This will be his first time in the Sooner State.
In addition to fishing, Richardson also enjoys four wheeling and snowmobiling.
