With the transition to a new head coach this year, the Eastern Utah baseball program seemed to be struggling to adjust.
However, with substantial home wins on Tuesday and Wednesday, it seems the team was only suffering from home sickness after spending the first 16 games of the season on the road.
Entering Tuesday’s game against Miles City Community College, the Eagles were 2-16 for the year. After three of four games against the Montana school, Eastern Utah has improved to 5-16.
In the opening game of two days of double headers, CEU scored four runs in the third inning and added two more in the fourth to defeat the Pioneers 6-5, despite a late rally by Miles City to catch up.
Cory Fralick got the win and finished in the fourth inning with three strikeouts. Sophomore Kyle Tash closed, chalking up three strikeouts and a save.
Jake Southwich was 2 for 3 on the day and Ryan Coleman went 1 for 2.
CEU took the second game in a similar fashion, winning 8-6.
To begin Wednesday, Eastern Utah coasted to an 11-3 win, setting up a likely sweep to help turn the season around.
Scores from the fourth game were unavailable at press time.
Eastern Utah will host Colorado Northwestern Community College on Friday and Saturday at the north baseball complex. Friday’s double-header will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday’s games start at noon.
The Eagles will then play eight consecutive double-headers at home, giving the squad the chance for a winning season before the region tournament in May.
