Edith Jeffs
CASTLE DALE – Edith Elean Beach (Slaugh) Jeffs, born July 30, 1921 in Sunnyside, to Ernest Beach and Edith Francis Preston, passed away March 10, 2004 in Salt Lake City at the age of 82.
She was a loving sister, wife, and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She never forgot a holiday and tried with her limited means to recognize her posterity on all their special occasions.
Edith was very proud of her legacy and all their accomplishments. Birthdays were a time she always sent a card and some money. She served over 25 years taking care of the needs of the elderly at the care center in Castle Dale and then in Ferron.
She will be greatly missed by all her friends and posterity.
Her legacy is a brother, Ernest Henry Beach; children, Colleen Evelyn (John) Evridge, Charles Ernest (Eileen) Jeffs, Clareen Elean (Matt) Arnold, Charmaine Edith (William) Sharp; 30 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by two husbands, Clarence Elven Slaugh and Dale Lee Jeffs; son, Warren Elven Slaugh and his wife, Judy; three siblings, Margaret Tracy Phieffer, Dorthy Florance Quinn and Lois Jean Peters.
Funeral services were Monday, March 15, at Fausett Mortuary Chapel in Castle Dale. Burial, Castle Dale Cemetery.
Alvin Gaudio
OREM – Alvin J. Gaudio, a.k.a. Big Al, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Alvin J. Gaudio, age 80, passed away march 2, 2004 in Orem.
He was born June 1, 1923 in Provo, to Luigi and Lavina Gaudio. Al married Alice Clifford in 1941, later divorced. He later married Jeanne Hersom July 29, 1975 in Hawaii. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mount Timpanogos LDS Temple in October 1996.
After graduating from Provo High in 1941, Al moved to California to study shoe repair. He served in the Army from 1943 through 1946. He moved to Provo and began working for Geneva Steel. In 1953 he started working for the BSA and moved to Price. He remained there until 1963 when he was offered a position with the BSA in Orange County, Calif.
The family moved to Orem in 1977, where they purchased Vern’s Beehive, renaming it Big Al’s Boot and Shoe Repair. The shop was in operation for 20 years. The second floor of the business served as a BSA museum. Al retired from the shoe repair business in 1997. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Provo Timp Lions Club which sponsors Troop 717, a special needs troop. Al and Jeanne have served over a century of service to the BSA.
Al is survived by wife of 29 years, Jeanne; children, Michael (Sharon) Gaudio, Manteca, Calif.; Larry (Donna) Gaudio, Spanish Fork; Alice (James) Goll-witzer, Provo; David (Paula) Gaudio, Buena Park, Calif.; Gino Gaudio, Provo; stepchildren, Ray (Karen) Hersom, Orange, Calif.; Jeff Hersom, Sandy; and Chelley (Marty) Hunsaker, Payson; 27 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; brother; sister; son, Richard Louis Gaudio; and stepson, Jerry Hersom.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 6, at the Orem 6th LDS Ward Chapel. Interment, Provo City Cemetery under the direction of Berg Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations for the family will be accepted at Central Bank in Al Gaudio’s name.
John Busch
PRICE – In loving memory of John T. Busch, who passed away peacefully March 13, 2004 in Price.
Born in Black Jack, Ill.. on Nov. 20, 1906.
Retired from the coal industry in Carbon County after 42 years of service and was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America.
John was well-known in East Carbon for the help he offered to the many dependents of deceased miners in applying for and receiving benefits.
He loved the outdoors and sharing his harvest with those in need. He especially loved spending time with his extensive family and hearing about all the new additions.
He never tired of watching Baltimore Orioles and BYU football.
Survived by children, Morgan, Silver Spring, Md.; Larry (Judy), St. George; Owen (Romona), St. George; Sally (Jim) Lechner Rochester, N.Y.; John (Jodi), Salt Lake City; Ellnor Graves, East Carbon; Fred (Bonnie), Sandy; more than 40 grand- and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two wives, Helen and Marian; parents; brothers and sisters; daughter, Jane Ellen; grandsons, Darrell and Thomas Busch; son-in-law, Larry Graves; and daughter-in-law, Sorina Busch.
The family would like to especially thank Shirley and Debbie from Community Nursing Services; his friend, Jennette; daughter, Ellie, who helped dad remain independent the past few years; and the staff at Parkdale Care Center for their care the past few months.
A viewing for friends and family will be Wednesday, March 17, 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price. A brief graveside service will be at the Ferron City Cemetery on Thursday, March 18, at 11 a.m.
Ann Spigarelli
EAST CARBON – Vera Farlaino Bonaquisto, age 89, passed away March 14, 2004 at Castleview Hospital in Price.
Born Oct. 9, 1914 in Sunnyside to Saverio “Sam” and Teresina Lamanna Farlaino. Married Tony Bonaquisto July 10, 1938 in Price. He preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1979.
Member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in East Carbon where she was active in the Altar society for many years and also named Woman of the Year. Vera worked for 25 years at Dragerton Department Store in East Carbon.
She loved going to the senior citizen center and visiting with her friends. Her greatest love in life was her family, who she enjoyed cooking and baking for.
She will be greatly missed.
Survived by daughters, Patti (Bob) Scarcelli, Salt Lake City; Toni (Frank) Sacco, East Carbon; brother, George (Angie) Farlaino, Price; four grandchildren, Traci, Wendi, Jim and Michael; 10 great-grandchildren, Karli, Kennedi, Ryleigh, Michael, Devyn, Roman, Emily, Chelsey, Chuck and Anthony who passed away March 18, 2001. Vera is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and a community of friends. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Rachelle Leonard, Della Compagni, Helen Evenich; infant brother, Jimmy; brother, Tom Farlaino; and great-grandson, Anthony O’Nash.
Funeral Mass Thursday, March 18, 10 a.m., Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Vigil service Wednesday evening, 7 p.m., at the church in East Carbon. Family will be at Good Shepherd Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.

Ruth Duncan
FERRON – Ruth Harris Duncan, our beautiful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, returned to her Heavenly Father March 13, 2004.
She was born Nov. 8, 1927 in Salt Lake City to Richard Merrill and Edna Kendall Harris. She married Mervin Duncan Dec. 29, 1944 in Ogden, later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
She was a world traveler and always on the go and was affectionately known as Grandma Go-Go.
As an active member of the LDS Church she served in various callings, mostly in the primary, as primary president and teacher.
She worked as a manager of the Emery County Senior Citizen Nutrition Center for 22 years.
Her first love has always been for her sweetheart of 59 years and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by husband, Mervin, Molen; children, Karrie Lee and Jed Behling, Ferron; Merrill and Julie Duncan, Molen; Delaina and James Nielsen, Rock Canyon; Laurie Ruth and Kent Larsen, Ferron; 29 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Richard Harris; and sister, Elizabeth Winn. Preceded in death by one grandchild.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 17, noon, at Ferron LDS Stake Center. Friends may call Tuesday evening, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Ferron Cemetery.
Quinn McNeil
Quinn T. McNeil, age 33, passed away March 13, 2004 in Price.
He was born Sept. 16, 1970 in Salt Lake City to Quinn and Joni Rhoten McNeil. He married Amanda Westenskow Sept. 16, 2000 in Huntington.
Quinn loved all sports and was a big Lakers fan.
He worked on the drilling rigs in Utah and Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda; children, Shawnee, Kaitlyn, Nichalos, Quinn Jr., Dillon, Michael and Lauren. Also survived by mother, brother and two sisters, Preceded in death by father.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, March 17, 11 a.m., in the Huntington City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary. Friends may call Wednesday, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Huntington 5th Ward LDS Chapel prior to services.
Marvin Miller
CASTLE DALE – Marvin Richard Miller, age 87, passed away March 11, 2004 in Elmo with his wife and family at his side.
He was born May 29, 1916 in Castle Dale to Willard and Anna Laura Woods Miller. He married Dorothy Holland Cowan Oct. 15, 1948 in Grand Junction, Colo.
Marvin served in the U.S. Army during World Ward II, having seen action on Okinawa.
Early in his life, he worked as a sheepherder. He was co-owner and operator of Miller and Curtis Packing Co. and was a lover of all things western.
Few people knew that he had a sweet voice.
Marvin is survived by wife, Dorothy; special niece, Dorothy Lee Young Doll, whom they raised, and her husband, Henry Doll Jr.; their children, Henry III, Jane, Kathleen and Rebecca; brother, Lwood “Ted” Miller; sister, Neva Smith; and many other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brother, Dee Miller.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 16, 11 a.m., in the Castle Dale LDS Stake Center. Friends may call at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Castle Dale Cemetery. Marvin’s generosity, kindness, wit and sense of humor will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Kim Gentry
PRICE/SHOSHONE, Idaho – Kim Clark Gentry, age 41, passed away March 11, 2004 in Shoshone, Idaho after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 15, 1962 in Price to William Charles and Glenda Estella Rich Gentry. In 1982 he married Kristi Anne Spears in Price.
Kim enjoyed the outdoors and he put his talents to work as a landscaper. He loved camping, hunting and fishing with his family. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Survived by wife, Kristi Gentry; children, Nikki Moosman, Whitini Gentry, Cody Gentry; granddaughter, Mya Moosman, all of Shoshone, Idaho; brothers, Robert (Lorraine) Gentry, Bill Gentry, Craig (Janice) Gentry, all of Price. Preceded in death by parents; and brother, DelMont.

Walter Axelgard
PRICE – Walter T. Axelgard passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on March 12, 2004 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
He was born to Christian Theusen and Karen Marie Sorenson Axelgard May 14, 1921 in Duchesne. He moved to Price at the age of seven and spent most of life here.
He is our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
As a 1939 graduate from Carbon High School, he was a proud member of the state champion football team. After high school, he attended Carbon College.
Walt, as he was affectionately known, proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theatre during World War II. Upon returning home, he fell in love and married his sweetheart, June Okelberry, on June 25, 1947.
Walt purchased a service station on Main Street in Price in 1947, and later expanded this station into what is now Dinosaur Tire Service, Inc. This business has served all of southeastern Utah, including the mining industry, about which he was extremely interested. At an early age, Walt involved his children in the business, which to this day, remains family owned and operated.
Walt was a dedicated public servant serving 14 years on the Price City Council and six years as mayor. His second term as mayor was interrupted when he was appointed chairman of the Utah State Industrial Commission by then Gov. Scott Matheson. He served in this capacity for eight years, being instrumental for many changes that remain in effect today.
Walt received numerous awards and accolades for his public and private service. Among these were the Tom McCoy award for being the outstanding Utah official in 1977; president of the Utah League of Cities and Towns in 1978; and chairman of the B.F. Goodrich Western Region Advisory Council.
Walt was a lifetime member of the Price Elks Lodge 1550, VFW Miners Post 2379, American Legion Post 3 as a mason, he was a 50-year member of the Price Joppa Lodge 26, and a member of the Price York Rite.
Walt loved to play golf. He received a lot of enjoyment and fulfillment from the game itself. It also allowed him the opportunity to spend quality time with his family and friends.
Walt is survived by wife, June Okelberry Axelgard; sons, Mick (DeAnna) Axelgard, Walter Jr. (LeAnna) Axelgard, Kevin (Bonnie) Axelgard, Scott (Stephanie) Axelgard, all of Price; and Julie (Ron) Jarvis, Santaquin; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Margurite Small; and brothers, Wiggo (Verna) Axelgard, Salt Lake City; and A.T. (Pat) Axelgard, Provo. Preceded in death by sisters, Nan Johnson and Christine Greenwood; brother, Chris; great-granddaughter, Makayle; parents; and niece, Barbara Hughes.
Walt – in your life you were loved, cherished, admired and respected by all who knew you. You will be missed by those who love you. Your life’s contributions to your family and to your community will always be remembered and cherished.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 18, 1 p.m. at the Price 4th/5th LDS Ward Church. Family will be at Fausett Mortuary Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery in Price. Judy Mullins
PRICE/PRINCETON, W.Va. – Judy Eaton Mullins, 63, died suddenly Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 10, 1940 at Bluefield, W.Va., the daughter of the late Wallace J. and Violet Beatrice Austin Eaton. Judy graduated from Bluefield High School, the School of X-ray Technicians at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bluefield, W.Va. For many years, she served as an X-ray technician for both St. Luke’s Hospital and Bluefield Sanitarium.
Judy was a Price resident from 1973-1987.
She was a member of the First Christian in Princeton, W.Va. Very active with the WAIMEA Association, serving as a president and on various boards and committees. She was a member of the Red Hat Club and was a sales associate for Kirk Realty and Auction Company of Princeton, W. Va.
Judy was a very devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. She was a grand hostess for any guest coming to her home, making you feel warm and welcome.
Survivors are her soulmate and loving husband of 43 years, R.C. “Moon” Mullins; two daughters she loved and adored very much, Misti Mullins and husband, Steven Brown, Charleston, S.C.; Mindi Mullins-Taylor and husband, Cornell, Kingsport, Tenn; special sister, Darlene Hall, Princeton, W.Va.; a host of nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Shirley Ann Rutherford; and two brothers, James E. Eaton and Jennings “Tex” Eaton.
On March 8, her life was celebrated at Burns Wornal Chapel. In keeping with Judy’s wishes, she was cremated under the direction of Memorial Funeral Directory and Cremation Center in Princeton, W.Va.

Nancy Marra
PRICE – Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Nancy Fleetwood Marra, died March 11, 2004 at the Heirloom Inn.
Born April 26, 1911 in Delta, Colo, to Warren Earl and Nellie Louise Hetts Fleetwood. Married Frank Marra Dec. 27, 1937 in Salt Lake City. He died May 18, 1986.
We will always remember her as the loving lady that she was.
Nancy enjoyed working in her garden and baking goodies for her two granddaughters.
Nancy was an R.N. and graduated from Salt Lake General Hospital in 1933.
Survived by son, Earl (Carol) Marra, Price; two granddaughters, Machele (Shane) Lemon, Grand Junction, Colo.; Stephanie (Steve) Oviatt, Huntington; the love of her life great-grandsons, Nickolas and Ross Oviatt; niece, Lorriaine Gozzole, Alamongardo, N.M.
At Nancy’s request, there will be no service and she will be cremated.

Richard Kuhns
EAST CARBON/SALT LAKE CITY – Richard Charles Kuhns, age 61, passed away March 15, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Villa in Salt Lake City, while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 6, 1942 in Salt Lake City to Richard C. and Lucille Andersen Kuhns.
Richard was a devoted and longtime member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in East Carbon.
He graduated from East Carbon High School and later attended the College of Eastern Utah.
For the past 19 years ,Richard worked for American Express in Salt Lake City.
He will be dearly missed by family and many longtime friends.
