Two former Carbon residents have been named for induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame at the CEU Founder’s Day dinner scheduled for March 27. Perry L. Christensen and Don Larsen will share honors with Pam Dupin-Bryant.
Perry L. Christensen, who now resides in Logan, started his career in athletics on the fields and turf of Carbon County. He attended Carbon High School from 1962 to 1964, where he participated in football, basketball and track. He then enrolled at CEU where he played football. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1966 to 1970 and is a Vietnam veteran. Upon return from military service he enrolled at Utah State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree (’74) and master’s degree (’85).
Christensen’s career as a football coach started at Logan Jr. High where he was head coach for three years and had a 15 win – 5 loss record. In 1978 he moved to Logan High School as assistant football coach and defensive coordinator and that was the year Logan High was undefeated with 12 wins and the State Championship to their credit. The next year (1979) Christensen was named head coach and held that position for the next 20 years. During those years his teams had a 117/82 win loss record. They won eight region championships and participated in the Ssate playoffs in 18 of 20 years.
In 1999 he moved to Sky View High School where he is currently serving as head football coach. During his five years at Sky View the team has participated in the state playoffs for two years. Christensen has coached five, 1st team quarter backs; 28, 1st team All State players and two MVP’s of the state of Utah. He also has coached two NFL players and 24 division 1 NCAA players.
Christensen is not only an outstanding football coach but also has received kudos from his peers when serving as president of the Utah Football Coaches Association and has been recognized for his professional skill as Utah 3-A Football Coach of the Year in both 1988 and 1989. Perry is married to Ginger Barboglio Christensen and has three children.

Don B. Larsen grew up in Price and now resides in Spanish Fork.
Larsen chose a career in health care administration and is currently CEO of AmeriPath, Utah. Larsen attended Carbon High in 1964-66 where he played on the baseball team all three years. His freshman year he played third base, then shortstop and pitcher as a junior and senior. He led the team in hitting and home runs in his senior year. He was named to the All-State team in his senior year. Larsen also played basketball at Carbon High for all three years and was named to the All-State second team when a senior.
At CEU (1966-68) he played baseball under the tutelage of Curt Jenson and led the team in batting average and home runs in l968. He then attended Southern Utah University on a baseball scholarship where he played shortstop and led the team as a senior in fielding percentage. He received All-Conference in his senior year. After graduating he played on many championship softball teams, first in Las Vegas, Nev. and then in Price, when he returned as hospital administrator.
While living in Price he learned to play racquetball at CEU’s BDAC and was involved in the first tournaments organized. For several years he won almost all of the individual “A” player tournaments and also won tournaments held in Vernal, Grand Junction, Colo.; Nashville, Tenn.; and was ranked as the the nubmer three player in his age bracket in Utah.
Larsen is married to Cathy Patterson Larsen and they have three children and three grandchildren.
