Two losses to close the regular season, courtesy of Salt Lake Community College, knocked Eastern Utah from a tie for second place in the SWAC conference.
Both teams entered the weekend series with a 16-6 record, making a sweep crucial for sole posession of second in the conference.
But the ball bounced the Lady Bruins’ way as CEU struggled from the field, shooting 33 percent on Friday and 35 percent on Saturday.
Lady Bruin Chelsey Chambers led SLCC to a 77-60 win on Friday, scoring 29 points and adding 15 rebounds.
Only one CEU player, Veva Whitear, hit double digits with 10 points.
The Lady Bruins again set the pace in Saturday’s game, shooting 52 percent from the field and taking the game 65-56.
Head coach Dave Paur said that although the shooting slump cost the team, the ladies still finished with the best win-loss record in school history at 22-8.
The Lady Eagles entered the first round of Region 18 tournament play against North Idaho College.
CEU has defeated NIC’s Lady Cardinals in all four matchups this season and was favored to do so again.
Results of the game were not available at the time of press.
A win yesterday would likely pair the Lady Eagles with Salt Lake again tomorrow.
The Lady Bruins opened the tournament against the last seed Colorado Northwestern Lady Spartans.
The Lady Spartans were 2-22 in conference play.
