Carbon High seniors Russell Scow and Brett Riche were recently named Academic All-State in wrestling by the Deseret Morning News.
The award recognizes athletes for their outstanding performance in the classroom while participating in high school sports.
Head wrestling coach Dave Smith said the intelligence and hard work of both athletes made them successful during the wrestling season and set an example for the younger classmen.
“They’re just great kids. I’d like to have a whole team of kids with their leadership ability,” Smith commented.
Scow and Riche both qualified for the state wrestling tournament this year and Riche placed sixth in the 3A classification.
In addition to wrestling, Scow and Riche were also honored as all-state academics during the football season.
Both athletes, who are friends on and off the field, will be playing soccer for Carbon this spring.
