Letter to the Editor: Friend taken from us

On February 5th 2004, between 5:45 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. I lost a very important part of my life. My 10 year devoted friend was taken from me by the ignorance of a driver on Soldier Creek Road.
This driver did not even stop. If the individual would have been going the speed limit they would not have hit her, but because she was just a dog they didn’t care that she lived for an hour. After this poor excuse for a person hit her and she crawled home and died in my driveway. That is where my eight year old son and I found her.
I know some people don’t care about animals like other people do, but to me a life is a life and if this person would have stopped I might have been able to find her and save her. They hit her so hard she flew off the road.
The speed limit here is 35 miles per hour but people often drive 50 and 60. I know there is nothing I can do to bring her back but maybe my tragedy will prevent some child from being hit or someone having their pet killed by a careless individual.
This person who hit my dog knows who they are and others know who they are. I hope you can live with yourself. As far as I am concerned they are not even human: he or she is a coward.
My lady dog was a white English Setter with black spots. Her devotion to my son and me was without measure. She was always good to stay out of the road, because you see she was a house dog.
And I loved her with all my heart.
