College of Eastern Utah’s mens basketball team regained a 500 winning percentage last weekend after two wins over Colorado Northwestern Community College.
The Eagles dominated Friday night’s game, winning 99-55.
Colorado made a strong run at CEU early in the first half on Saturday, with a double-digit lead on the Eagles.
But, CEU soon settled into a groove and overtook the Spartans.
The final game score was 79-68.
The Spartans remain at the bottom of the conference rankings, with a 0-18 record.
The Lady Eagles also took away two wins for the weekend.
After a relatively routine game on Friday night, which the CEU Lady Eagles won 89-69, Saturday’s game was, at times, more like a hockey match.
Tempers flared in what head coach Dave Paur deemed a very physical game.
Two, double-technicals were called in Saturday night’s game to calm the girls down and stop fights that had broken out.
Paur said he agreed with the calls, although he added that the officials allowed the game to get out of control by not making calls.
“That just sends a message for the girls to stop fighting,” he commented.
CEU assistant coach Dan Allen also received a technical foul in the 79-65 win.
Colorado drops to 2-15 in conference play.
The victories solidify Eastern Utah’s second place positioning in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
The team’s record is currently 16-4.
However, the Lady Eagles’ sights are still set on finishing the regular season as the first place team in the SWAC.
CEU will travel to Twin Falls, Idaho Feb. 13 and 14 for some tough road games against the College of Southern Idaho Eagles.
CEU would overtake Southern Idaho’s 16-2 record if the ladies can sweep the weekend.
“The girls are looking forward to it. This team finds ways to win despite the coaches,” Paur joked.
