North Sanpete wins with fourth quarter assault

By Sun Advocate

After a stellar performance in the first three quarters of Tuesday night’s game against North Sanpete, Carbon’s star fell from the basketball heavens.
The Dinos outscored the Hawks 22-11 in the first quarter, fluidly rebounding, driving and shooting the ball.
However, early foul trouble in the first half lead to a second half change from man to zone defense and opened a window for the Hawks to crawl in.
The Dinos were able to stave off an uprise in the third quarter, keeping pace with North Sanpete and entering the fourth quarter only down by three.
However, two quick three-pointers to open the quarter began a Hawk run that did not end until the buzzer.
“We came out and they hit two big threes on us and put us in the hole,” head coach Ted Bianco commented. “We just weren’t putting in what they were taking out.”
According to Bianco, the foul trouble limited what the team could do defensively and gave the Hawks some offensive confidence. As a result, North Sanpete was able to outscore the Dinos 23-9 in the final quarter and cruise to a 68-51 win.
Eleven Hawk players were able to contribute points in the game, overshadowing the seven Carbon scorers who combined for seven three-pointers.
The Dinos drop to 1-4 in region eight play with the loss. North Sanpete rises to 3-3.
Carbon will play region and area rival Emery High this Friday at Emery.
