Kass Esplin demonstrates his salt water welding machine during the Carbon County School District’s science fair Tuesday evening.
After the judging was completed, the Mont Harmon Junior High student won first place in the junior division of the engineering competition and third place in the overall outstanding project category at the event.
Esplin said he had welded with the technique at the fair, but the machine kept blowing the power breakers so he had to stop.
Students from the secondary schools in the district competed in 14 different areas.
