I am the proud parent of a sophomore athlete. I support her in any sport or school activity of her desire.
My main concern for this letter is the Viking support I’ve seen as athetic events.
These students work hard, not only to keep grades up enough to remain playing sports, but they show up to practices as early as 5 a.m. every morning, practice hard for two hours then make it to school on time.
I’ve seen teams walk off the bus at 3 a.m. and still show up to school at 8 a.m.
I give each and every athlete extreme praise and respect for the dedication and heart to strive and set good examples for their community and fellow student athletes, although the support I have seen from this community, Viking alumni, family and friends does not measure up to the amount of support these athletes deserve.
For instance, in December, the Lady Vikings hosted Green River’s Lady Pirates for a basketball game. The stands were packed, but whose team do you think had all the support? Not our Lady Vikings. Those stands were full of Green River fans.
My daughter made a comment to me that night, how discouraging it is to look up into her home court stands and only see the same few parents every game.
I have a challange to all Viking parents, friends, family, alumni, etc – take one night out of your busy schedules and come out and watch one game or one wrestling match, before the season is finished. And watch the sparkle in your Viking’s eyes to see you sitting and cheering them on.
I feel these kids will give you the best game of the season. They give 100 percent of themselves now to make their school proud. Let’s give them the confidence to give 150 percent.
They need us all to be there to show them how proud we are of them. As a fan, not just a parent, I go to every event I possibly can.
I support all East Carbon Vikings, not just the teams my daughter plays on.
I’ve watched volleyball, baseball and both girls and boys basketball, high school and junior high.
Please show your children how important they are.
