The Lady Dinos began their run for the top seed in region eight with a win on Thursday over Emery High.
According to head coach Bruce Bean, Carbon and Emery have each had their share of wins and losses over the years in the highly anticipated matchup.
“It’s quite a rivalry,” he stated. “There’s been times when we’ve been better and they’ve won and they’ve been better and we’ve won.”
With the Emery game, Carbon begins a stream of region play which will continue right up until the first rounds of the state tournament.
Bean said he expects a dog fight from the other four region teams.
“This is the toughest region top to bottom in the state in 3A,” he commented. “It’s gonna be a battle.”
At this point in the season, Carbon High is focusing on executing the skills they learned early on.
“Our strengths are our scoring ability and our competitiveness,” Bean noted. “Our girls take a lot of pride in this game.”
Bean also added that defensively the team is holding opponents to approximately 40 points a game, which he considers to be strong.
Carbon will host North Sanpete tonight, then travel to Delta and Lehi.
Bean said he expects these early games to dictate the team’s position when the state tournament rolls around.
“The next week and a half is really going to make or break where we’re seeded for the state tourney,” he said.
