Ruth Dart
PRICE – Ruth Redd Dart, age 79, passed away Jan. 7, 2004 at her home in Price surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Oct. 15, 1924 in Price to John Hardison and Veta Bryner Redd. She married James M. Dart Sr. Sept. 25, 1943 in Seattle, Wash. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
While residing in the Seattle/Tacoma, Wash. area during World War II, Ruth was employed at the Bon Marche Department Store in downtown Seattle as a comptometer operator in the personnel department. She also worked for the Todd Shipyards in Tacoma. After returning to Price, she spent her time raising her family whom she loved dearly. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to knit. She was involved in every aspect of her children’s lives, supporting them as scorekeeper for the Price WBBA, encouraging them in their music education, and was always there to teach them the value of excellent in all their endeavors and the importance of service to others. As the children became more indepedent, Ruth helped provide support for the children’s educational needs and missionary service by teaching scores of piano students from beginner to advanced. An accomplished musician with a passionate love of music. She played piano for many years with her husband in the “Jimmy Dart Orchestra” and sang with the New Century Double Trio at various civic and church events. She later was employed at the Parkdale Care Center and later at CEU Bookstore. She was intimately involved in the daily operation of KRPX-AM and KPRQ-FM radio stations in Price, helping her husband and sons fulfill a lifelong dream. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as president of the Price LDS 5th Ward relief society board in the Carbon Stake, as well as many other callings. Her family remembers her many acts of kindness to others.
Ruth is survived by devoted husband of 60 years, Jimmy, of Price; children, Diane (Randol) Potter of Salt Lake; James (Diane) Dart Jr. of Price; Richard (Dedee) Dart of Lakeville, Mass.; David Dart of Pasadena, Calif.; Merrlyn (George) Farish of Spring Glen; 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren plus one grandchild and four great-grandchildren on the way. Also survived by brother, John “Jack” Redd of Salt Lake City; and sisters, Ruby Harris of Orem; and Maris Snow of Ogden. Preceded in death by parents, two brothers, one sister, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 10 in the Price 4th/5th LDS Ward Chapel. Interment, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Allen Price
PRICE – Our beloved father, Allen Price, 87, passed away Jan. 10, 2004 at home (Heirloom Inn), in Price.
He was born Aug. 10, 1916 in Ferron, to William Henry and Lydia Jane Metcalf Price. He married Zelda A. Peterson, later deceased. They had one daughter, Geraldine. Married Oma McBroom Nov. 1, 1941. Pictured together, they had six children, Vivian, Larry, Jerry, Regina, Richard and Gayla. Oma passed away Sept. 23, 1987. Married Sibyl Timothy March 19, 1989, he inherited six more children, Molly, Dixie, Bob, Sandra, Holly and Judy. Sibyl passed away June 5, 2003.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Allen was a true cowboy who enjoyed farming, ranching, hunting and breaking horses. He worked for Kaiser Steel Company and was a member of the UMWA Local 9958 for over 40 years. He was one of the original member of the Grassy Trail Riding Club in Sunnyside.
Allen is survived by children, Geraldine (Larry) Olsen of Manti; Vivian (Chester) Houskeeper, Larry Price, Jerry (Frances) Price, Regina (Tom) McCourt, Richard (Kathy) Price, Gayla (Rick) Houskeeper, all of Carbon County; Molly Wood, Oregon; Dixie (Leon) Thayne, of Price; Bob (Shirley) Wilstead, St. George; Sandra (Dean) Holdaway, Holly (Delon) Larsen, both of Salt Lake City and Judy (Jim) Noyes of Price. Also survived by 51 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dora Fautin of Lindon; brothers, Owen Price of Orangeville; and Daniel (Maxine) Price of Wellington. Preceded in death by parents; wives; two sons-in-laws, Robert Bachelder and Ronald Leonard; granddaughter, Judy Lynn Pearson; and three sisters and three brothers.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price. Graveside services, Price City Cemetery at 1 p.m. If weather is bad a short service will be held at Fausett Mortuary Chapel at 1 p.m. with a grave dedication to follow at the cemetery.
