Dino swimmers compete against best in state

Carbon swimmers are repeatedly improving their competition times.

As Carbon nears the midway point of their swimming season, their efforts are beginning to show results.
Many Carbon High swimmers had top finishes in last weekend’s double dual swimming meet at Uintah with Uintah and Wasatch.
Women’s results: Erika Flower, 1st 500 free, 6th 50 free; Regina Tetreault, 2nd 200 free, 3rd 100 fly; Audrey Oliver, 3rd 200 IM, 4th 100 free; Rikilyn Birch, 3rd 500 free, 8th 50 free; Trisha Erickson, 4th 100 fly, 4th 100 back; Brittney Banning, 4th 100 breaststroke, 5th 50 free; Cynthia Owen, 4th 50 free, 10th 50 free; Shanda Crawley, 5th 200 free, 6th 100 fly; Amy Pulsipher, 8th 200 IM, 6th 100 back; Lyn’D Anderson, 9th 200 IM, 9th 100 breaststroke; Kami Durrant, 9th 50 free; Danielle Worley, 11th 100 free, 10th 100 breaststroke.
Men’s results: Chase Norton, 1st 200 free, 1st 500 free; Chris Eikenbary, 2nd 200 IM, 2nd 100 free; Cliff Sorensen, 2nd 100 back, 4th 100 fly; Li Yu, 3rd 200 IM, 3rd 100 fly; Bradlee Leonard, 4th 500 free, 5th 100 breaststroke; Matt Petty, 4th 100 back, 7th 50 free; Kellen Spillman, 4th 100 breaststroke, 7th 100 free; Derrik Leonard, 5th 100 back, 6th 200 free; Jacob Mantz, 5th 100 fly, 6th 100 breaststroke; Dan Gibson, 6th 200 IM, 9th 100 free; Joe Harber, 7th 100 back, 10th 50 free.
Carbon High also competed in a Cedar City invitational on Dec. 5 and 6.
According to coach Phyllis Cox, many schools from 3A, 4A and 5A classifications attended the meet.
“In many ways, it may be considered similar to, or harder than, our 3A state championship meet,” she noted.
Several Dino athletes were able to improve their best times by several seconds.
The women’s competition results were as follows:
Reggie Tetreault, 19th 100 fly, 21st 100 free; Erika Flower, 19th 500 free, 25th 200 free; Audrey Oliver, 25th 100 free, 26th 200 IM; Trisha Erickson, 31st 100 free, 40th 50 free; Rikilyn Birch, 41st 100 free, 55th 50 free; Danielle Worley, 51st 100 free, 68th 50 free; Cynthia Owen, 52nd 100 free, 67th 50 free; Victoria Brown, 55th 100 free, 71st 50 free.
Team relays: 21st out of 23, 200 medley; 17th out of 25, 200 free relay; 24th out of 24, 200 free relay.
The men’s competition results were as follows:
Chase Norton, 10th 100 fly (state qualifier), 4th 100 free (state qualifier); Chris Eikenbary, 10th 50 free (state qualifier), 9th 100 breaststroke (state qualifier); Jacob Mantz, 21st 100 breaststroke, 32nd IM; Li Yu, 21st 100 fly (state qualifier), 23rd 100 breaststroke; Bradlee Leonard, 23rd 100 free, 26th 200 IM; Matt Petty, 23rd 50 free, 29th 100 back; Cliff Sorensen, 23rd 500 free, 26th 100 back; Kellen Spillman, 24th 100 free, 29th 200 free; Derrik Leonard, 25th 500 free, 26th 200 free; Dan Gibson, 29th 100 free, 29th 50 free.
