Even with freezing weather and a snowy field, the Price Outlawz mounted a phenominal defensive attack on the Layton Longhorns and defeated the more established team 17-6.
Many fans gathered at Helper Junior High to watch the semi-pro team in their first game as part of the Rocky Mountain Football League and contribute to the Angel Tree and the Price food bank.
Although the team only had one offensive score on a pass from quarterback Buzz Rondinelli to brother Rocky Rondinelli, the team had two safeties and an interception by Dominic Lewis, which was returned for a touchdown.
Coach Buzz Rondinelli Sr. said the team played well offensively but the defense stole the show.
“Offensively we moved it up and down the field but we never got to punch it in,” he commented. “Defensively, we dominated the football game. The whole team deserved a game ball for that effort.”
Running backs Perry Laulu and Jeremy Lamph combined for over 250 yards and Ty Alderson, Chris Wareham, Adam Rogers, Chad Feichko, Todd West, Kyle Abeyta, Kenny Timothy and Eric Vigor were just a few of the defensive players who combined for outstanding defensive results.
The money raised through ticket sales will go to three local children and will be delivered by members of the team.
Three boxes of canned food were also donated by attendees and players of the game.
According to Rondinelli, the team will try to schedule one more home game before Christmas.
The season will then continue in the spring.
