Claude Duncan Sr.


WELLINGTON – Claude Willard Duncan Sr., age 86, died Nov. 14, 2003.
He was born April 4, 1917 in Huntsville, Tenn., to Marion and Eldora Sexton Duncan. Married Clara Renda Byrge, Oct. 17, 1938 in Huntington, Tenn. She passed away on March 31, 1998.
He served in the U.S. Army. Claude will be remembered from the lumber mills in Tennessee to the coal mines and junk yards in Utah.
Survived by three sons and four daughters, George E. (Thelma) Duncan, Price; David R. (Bonnie) Duncan, Paonia, Colo.; Lillian L. Duncan, Rose L. Hayworth, both of Wellington; Clara J. (Conrad) Willbanks, Price; Betty R. Flom, Wellington; Claude “Buddy” (Debby) Duncan Jr., Nathrop, Colo.; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Claude was preceded in death by parents; four infant daughters; sons, Willard Mark and William Ray; brothers, William and Floyd Duncan; and sister, Mary Jane.
Funeral service Thursday, Nov. 20, 2 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to service. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery.


Marvel “Joe” Flom


WELLINGTON – Our beloved husband, son, father, brother, uncle and best friend, Marvel “Joe” Lee Flom was tragically taken from us on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003.
He was born Sept. 8, 1960 in Staples, Minn. to Floyd and Dorothy Zak Flom.
Joe enjoyed the outdoors, he loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed going to Nevada with his sister-in-law Lil Duncan to test their skill in gambling. Joe could be found many times barbecuing for his wife, Betty Flom, during family get togethers. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Joe was a very hard worker and he loved his job at Savage Coal Company where he leaves behind many dear friends.
Joe is survived by beloved wife and best friend, Betty Ruth Flom, Wellington; stepchildren, Renda and Morgan; stepmother, Viola Flom, Minnesota; brothers, Mike Flom, Washington; Danny Flom, Minnesota; sisters, Mary, Texas; Diane, Minnesota; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews from Washington, Minnesota, Texas, Oregon, Missouri, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado and Utah; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lillian Duncan, Wellington; Clara (Conrad) “the other Putz” Willbanks, Wellington; George (Thelma) Duncan, Price; Rose Hayworth, Wellington; Claude “Buddy” (Debby) Duncan Jr., David “Roscoe” (Bonnie) Duncan, both of Colorado. Preceded in death by mother and father.
Joe we will all dearly miss you, say hi to grandma for all of us, we love you.
Memorial service Tuesday, Nov. 18, 7 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home.


Dana Phelps


SPRING CANYON/SEATTLE – Dana Mae Phelps, passed away Nov. 09, 2003.
Born Dec. 12, 1931 to Elizabeth Jeanette and Alfred James Phelps in Spring Canyon.
Dana was the eighth child in a family of 10. Attended Carbon High School, graduated 1950. Was a member of the Carbon High Majorettes Club. Dana worked for the Carbon County Sheriff’s office prior to moving to Salt Lake City where she was employed by the Utah State Attorney General’s office for 28 years. Dana kept our family laughing and smiling together for many years. She loved her family unconditionally, especially her grandsons. There are no words to express the void she has left in our hearts with her passing.
She is survived by her only daughter, Pamela (Mark); grandsons, Erron and Braxton; sister, Barbara; brother, Bill (Kathy); sister-in-law, Betty; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Clark (Bethea), Lola (Dave), Irene (Fred), Beatrice (Theo), Oliver, Jimmy, Walker and brother-in-law Guy.
Everyone that had the pleasure of knowing Dana will miss her so very much.
A Mass was held at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in her honor. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Dana’s name be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.


Rod Chidester


WELLINGTON – Rodney J. Chidester, age 66, passed away Nov. 14, 2003 at his home.
He was born Oct. 1, 1937 in Price to Clin J. and Laura J. Hastings Chidester. Married Mary Bartlow April 6, 1957 in Cover City, Calif., later divorced. Married Mary Medrano Thayn June 29, 1966 in Cover City, Calif., she passed away Jan. 21, 2000.
Rod served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Hollister. He enjoyed the outdoors and he especially loved fishing and hunting. Rod will be dearly missed by his family and many longtime friends in Carbon County and California.
Survived by mother, Laura Chidester, Price; children, Cathy (John) Rykowski, Placentia, Calif.; Horace (Lois) Thayn, Janet (David) Watson, both of San Jose, Calif.; Beth Adams, Wellington; brother, Carl (Mary) Chidester, Helper; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and dear friends. Preceded in death by father; daughter, Judy Gaylene; son, Richard Ray.
Memorial service Thursday, Nov. 20, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be Mitchell’s Thursday one half hour prior to service. Interment, Wellington City Cemetery.
