Cross Country runners from around the state stampede the track at Carbon High in a mid-season run hosted by the Dinos. Carbon competed against many of the same runners at the state cross country tournament, which took place on Oct. 22 in Salt Lake City. |
Although temperatures have continued to drop as the month progresses, Carbon High cross country runners didn’t benefit from the cooler weather during the state cross country tournament.
Runners battled weather in excess of 85 degrees during the Sugarhouse Park run in Salt Lake City.
Carbon girls finished in 14th place as a team and Carbon boys finished 15th.
Melanie Madsen had the top finish of the two teams, taking home ninth place.
Elizabeth Brooks took 79th place, Brittany Horrocks came in 85th and Ashley Anderson followed in 86th. Mikaleen Loveless finished 93rd.
For the boys team, David Goodrich took 66th place with younger brother Paul finishing in 71st.
Zac Burdick crossed the line in 98th place, with Bo Christensen in 101st and Tyler Munns in 103rd.
Two runners were also honored with academic awards for their excellent performance in the classroom.
Madsen and Joe Harber both received Academic All Region Awards for the 2003 season.
Coach Stewart Foster said that although the team didn’t finish high out of the 15 teams competing, the kids should be proud of their accomplishment of making it to state and doing well in the region race.
“We had a great year rebuilding our team,” Foster commented. “We look forward to a stronger year to come.”
