The College of Eastern Utah Lady Eagles volleyball team has struggled the past few years. This year has been different.
According to coach Brent Martindale, this is the best start that the team has ever had.
Last Friday evening, the Eagles hosted Salt Lake Community College who entered the event ranked fourth in the Scenic West Atlthetic Conference standings.
This was an important game for the Eagles and the team took control of the court as they defeated SLCC, 3-2.
Jordan Fox and Amy Collette each had a successful game according to Martinadale.
Also assisting CEU to a victory was setter, Emilee Madsen who Martindale feels played a key role in the outcome of the game.
Following the successful showing on Friday, the Eagles returned to the court Saturday afternoon. This time however, the outcome would be quite different.
CEU hosted Southern Idaho who is ranked second in the nation. Martindale explains that the team was overwhelmed in this game and ended up on the losing end of the scoreboard by the final, 3-0.
“Southern Idaho has some intense players and we made several mistakes which they took advantage of,” explained the Eagle’s coach.
Currently, CEU’s record stands at 4-4 in the conference and 9-12 overall.
The next game on the Eagle’s roster will take place Oct. 24 at the BDAC beginning at 7 p.m. as Western Wyoming comes to town.
Then, the CEU team will host Colorado Northwestern Oct. 25 at 3 p.m.
