For a team that has not lost by more than a single score all season, Friday night’s football game against Lehi was a disappointing turn for the worse.
“We had a whole football team not show up to play,” Carbon coach Jeff Jorgensen stated. “There was something on their minds other than football.”
Even Carbon’s defense, which has been solid all season, was inconsistent in the blowout game at Lehi.
“We got beat in every aspect, offensively, defensively, and even our coaching,” he commented. “It’s the only time our team has really gotten beat.”
The Dinos lost 36-0. The loss drops Carbon to 2-4 in regular season play and 0-2 in region eight competition.
This week the Dinos face rivals Emery High at home in a high-stakes matchup.
For the Carbon seniors, it will be their last home football game.
In addition, the game will most likely determine which team goes to state and which one reads about it.
Emery is also coming off a major loss last week. North Sanpete defeated the Spartans 42-0.
According to Jorgensen, Emery always rises to play against the Dinos and he is glad that Carbon will have the advantage of playing at home.
Jorgensen said the team needs to put the Lehi loss behind them and prepare for Emery this week.
“We gotta lick our wounds and hope the kids learned you gotta come to play,” he concluded. “If not, it’s going to be a short season.”
The Emery game begins at 7 p.m., Friday at the Dino football field.
