Carbon’s Madsen sets new course record at Moab run

Lady Dino cross country placed second out of eight teams at Wednesday’s invitational run in Richfield.
Melanie Madsen, last week’s homecoming second attendant, traded her crown for track attire to lead Carbon’s girls team with a time of 20:02 – the best finishing time of the race.
Ashley Anderson, Elizabeth Brooks, Janelle Bates and Brittany Horrocks all completed the race behind Madsen to secure the team’s second place in the 3.1 mile run.
Carbon’s boys finished fourth, led by David and Paul Goodrich. David Goodrich finished 8th out of a field of 66 runners.
Other top Carbon boy’s runners were Jacob Perez, Christian Anestad, Tyler Munns, and Kellen Spillman.
Carbon also competed in Saturday’s Utah County Invitational at Moab.
Madsen again dominated the girls division. Her time was good enough to take first in the girl’s division and set a new course record, beating the old record time by 45 seconds.
Horrocks placed first in the JV division, with teammates Anderson taking second, Brooks placing third and Kami Durrant finishing ninth.
David Goodrich placed second in the boy’s race after leading for the majority of the run. Tyler Munns, Kellen Spillman and John Truckenbrodt also had strong finishes.
Paul Goodrich took second place in the JV division.
Carbon’s next meet with be tomorrow at North Sevier.
