Dino golfers off to slow start

By Sun Advocate

Carbon golfers travelled to Spanish Fork Aug. 21 for their first region match of the year.
Players Cody Anderson, Mike Smith and Mark Rasmussen all shot an 86 for the day, with teammate Mike Zaccaria shooting an 88.
Other varsity competitors were Kent Hartley, Tyler Nelson, Trent Jensen and Cameron Oliver.
The team total of 346 was enough to put Carbon in 4th place, behind Delta (312), Lehi (337) and Emery (341). North Sanpete finished with 397.
Coach Tony Pinedo said his team is struggling because of the lack of off-season practice, but that he expects improvement to come with time.
“I know we’re going to get better,” Pinedo stated. “We’ve just got to have the older kids step up.”
In addition to the Spanish Fork match, the Dinos were also scheduled for two tournaments in St. George.
Friday’s Pineview tournament, which was set to take place at Coral Canyon, was rained out.
However, the Carbon golfers played in a rain-free Dixie tournament on Saturday at Sun Brook.
The leaders shot a combined score of 357. Anderson shot an 88, Smith and Nelson had an 89, and Rasmussen and Hartley both shot 91. Mike Zaccaria also competed.
The Dinos will see more region action today at Delta.
