Lady Eagles to host annual alumni game

By Sun Advocate

CEU volleyball teams of the past and present will share a court on Saturday at the BDAC.
The season opener will pit the 2003 squad against a combination of alumni volleyball players from the past seven years.
Coach Brent Martindale said the match serves as the ladies’ fire drill for the upcoming season, getting them used to the crowd and playing in a game situation.
“They get first game jitters out of the way,” Martindale explained.
Five players will be returning from the 2002 team. This year’s roster includes eight freshman and six sophomores. Martindale said he expects the team to be more successful than last year’s group.
“On paper, we are set to have a pretty good season; we have depth at every position and players that have come from winning schools,” Martindale commented. “I think they have the potential to be one of my best teams.”
The Lady Eagle’s team has never lost to the alumni. However, this year’s alumni team includes two athletes who went on to play at division one schools.
The alumni team should be the best one yet and will be tough competition for the squad, according to Martindale.
The alumni game is free to the public and begins at 6 p.m., Saturday at the BDAC.
