This could be a breakout year for the Helper Arts Festival, and what a year to do it, considering next year the event will be 10 years old.
The Saliva Sisters, one of the hottest acts in Utah will make their first appearance ever at the festival.They have been together 20 years, but their act, which focuses on parody songs and crazy antics, has found homes in such places as the western governors conference to the Utah Education Association convention.
In their own publicity they state “The Saliva Sisters are an unnatural act. Who would have supposed a girl group singing parody songs about fiber, bidets, and bras would have survived, let alone flourished in Utah?”
There are also a number of other firsts. There are a couple of new venues for people to visit.
The Rio Theatre will be in operation all three days with dancing, singing, and skits done by various groups.
Another indoor venue will also be held. The Helper Emporium will be converted into a theatre for a literary fest, where poets and authors will be reading their works and musicians will be performing as well. Authors will be there to sell their productions and to sign them as well.
The Wells Fargo Stagecoach will also be in town to provide rides to the public on Saturday.
Those firsts are great, but so is the tradtion of the festival that as it has been in the past.
All kinds of musical performances will take place in the park on Main Street during the three days of the festival.
This year there are over 100 booths on the streets of Helper selling everything from food to art. And of course the local businesses on the street will have their doors open for people to browse and buy.
