Natural fire pit doesn’t mean fires are fine

This natural hole in the rock near the Wedge Overlook in the San Rafael swell has served as a camp spot and a place for a campfire for many years. However, with the closed fire season now in effect (as of June 1), fires in non-approved areas are not legal even if they are protected from spreading like this one is. Campers and picnicers should check with the Bureau of Land Management and other officials before setting campfires anywhere in the area. The fire danger is now high in all areas of eastern Utah.
