Free legal clinic – will be offered June 9 from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. at the 7th District Court complex in Price. For appointments or information, contact the district court office or call Utah Legal Services toll-free at 800-662-1563.
Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Food handlers classes – Two-hour sessions will be offered June 12 and July 22 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health district in Price. Classes will be taught June 12 and July 17 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health department in Castle Dale. Test fees required. For information, contact Claron Bjork at 637-3671.
Carbon County Animal Services – Residents are encouraged to bring recycled newspapers and aluminum to the office at 3360 S. 225 West, Price. Donations will be used for homeless pets.
Carbon County Food Bank – Hours are Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. For information on volunteering, donating or applying, contact Dondra Nance at 637-9232.
Foster Care Foundation – Residents interested in becoming foster parents may call Greg Cowan at 636-0210.
Environmental quality incentives program – Carbon and Emery agricultural producers may submit applications for the conservation program at the FSA office in Castle Dale. Offers submitted by June 3 will be ranked for 2003 funding allocations. Applications submitted at later dates will remain on file for future evaluation. Parenting for teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Participants learn about available resources, assistance to return/remain in school, parenting/life skills, cooking and recreation opportunities. For information, contact Terry Willis at 637-0281.
CASA – Special advocates are trained volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Volunteers are screened. For information, call Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – The program needs youth mentors. For information, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Carbon County Animal Shelter – AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health district at 637-3671 for appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
ABC Learning Center – features movies Fridays at 7 p.m. The facility has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Summer hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 7 p.m. Winter hours are from 2 to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.

Schools


Summer lunch program – Child nutrition services will sponsor free lunches for youth ages 18 years and younger starting June 2 at several local school. Lunch will be served Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wellington Elementary, Petersen Elementary, Helper Junior High and Castle Valley Center. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at Castle Valley Center. The program concludes Aug. 1 at all schools except Castle Valley Center, where breakfast and lunch will be served until Aug. 8. Adults may purchase meals for a nominal fee.
Carbon High Class of 1963 reunion – is scheduled Aug. 8 to Aug. 10 at the Price Holiday Inn. For information, contact Louise Hamilton at 472-3859.

Price Cream the Council – The pie-throwing fundraising event to benefit local charities is slated June 6 at Price Peace Garden. Residents may purchase pies to toss at the mayor and city council members from 2 until 4 p.m For information, contact Nick Tatton at 636-3184.
Carbon fair, rodeo king and queen contests – The competition for youth ages 6 or younger and 7 to 10 years old is slated June 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the main arena at the county fairgrounds. The contest for youth ages 11 to 13 and 14 years or older is planned June 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the arena. For applications and packets, residents may contact local fair-rodeo organizers at 637-1972.
Black Diamond rodeo queen contest – is scheduled May 30 at 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds arena for unmarried contestants ages 13 years or older from Carbon and Emery counties. For information, contact the chamber office at 637-2788.
Price Culture Connection -The schedule includes the following presentations:
May 31 – Celebrate America dance review, matinee at 2 p.m and performance at 7 p.m., CEU Geary Theatre. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
June 12 – singer Sherrie Vlamakis, 7:30 p.m., Pirce Peace Garden.
June 19, CEU junior band camp concert, 7:30 p.m., Price Peace Garden.

Buckhorn Archers – will host 3-D shoots June 7 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Campground. Registration will be 30 minutes prior to shoots. Fees required.
Heritage Days – Rodeo performances are scheduled June 6 and June 7 at 7 p.m. at Huntington arena. The queen pageant is June 19 and the men’s softball tourney is slated June 27-28. Activities planned July 3 and July 4 at Huntington park include kids pet and talent contests, a bike ride and fun run, games, booths and entertainment along with three on three basketball. The kids parade is July 4 at 10 a.m. The parade on Huntington Main Street will follow at 11:30 a.m. Fireworks will be ignited July 4 at dusk at Huntington arena.
Dance recital – will take place May 31 at 7 p.m. at Price Civic Auditorium. Admission fees.
Carbon County Humane Society golf tournament – The shotgun start for the four-man scramble is scheduled June 7 at 8 a.m. at the county golf course. Team and individual prizes will be awarded at the open event. The organization will use the proceeds to provide low-cost pet spaying/neutering services.
