It seems as though it’s a monthly ritual for the Carbon County senior to board a bus and head for an event or trip. Again this past month, 39 of the local seniors and their friends ventured down the road to Moab for an evening at the Bar-M Chuckwagon.
The two-hour drive down was catchup time for most of the men and women who chatted nonstop about comings and goings in their lives. There visiting was interrupted only briefly by the bus driver who sang his “off-key” rendition of a George Strate song.
After arriving, the seniors kept well entertained with a gunfight, photo shoots at a couple of the tourist locations and purchased rocks from a couple younger vendors.
Their hosts were Valarie and Alan Brown, who with a small staff appear to be jacks-of-all-trades, singing, cooking, serving, and providing comedy acts for the guests.
Traveling for the local seniors is a large part of the social events through the senior citizen’s center. Upcoming trips include Tuacan and Mesquite on June 17, the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City on June 27, Gunsmokin’ at the Desert Star Theater on July 12 in Murray, Clark’s Planetarium in Salt Lake on July 19 and in August the group will travel back to Salt Lake to see Footloose at the Hale Centre Theatre.
