A Carbon County sidewalk lies underneath a pool of water which backed up from a runoff ditch. As the weather heats up, residents are pulling out garden hoses and watering their yards. Before doing so however, residents must be aware of any water restrictions which may already be in place.
Helper city residents are reminded that last year’s water restrictions are still in place. The ordinance which was passed by the city council last year states that residents should not water between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and that driveways or sidewalks should not be watered or sprayed off at any time. Residents who do not comply with the restrictions may be cited by law enforcement officers.
According to Helper city council member, Robert Welch, the city hopes to lift the restrictions after the Fish Creek line is repaired later this spring. In the meantime, resident’s throughout Carbon County are urged to follow proper watering techniques and clean out ditches before watering begins in order to conserve the valuable liquid resource.
