Any Utah resident who would like to see big game hunting changes in Utah in 2004, or if there are opportunities in place now that residents do not want to be changed, the Division of Wildlife Resources wants to hear from these Utah citizens.
The DWR will take ideas for Utah’s 2004 and 2005 big game seasons from the public at a series of regional advisory council meetings which will be conducted throughout Utah at the end of March.
In addition to these ideas, the DWR will present proposed big game permit numbers for Utah’s 2003 hunts, including permits for general buck deer, general bull elk, limited entry and once-in-a-lifetime hunts.
Proposed changes to some of Utah’s big game management plans also will be discussed at the southeastern region meeting.
“It’s very important that people who are interested in big game hunting attend this meetings, and share their ideas with us,” stated Jim Karpowitz, big game coordinator for the DWR.
“Over the next few months, we’ll be drafting specific recommendations to present to the public and the Utah Wildlife Board this fall. We need input from the public now to help us formulate those recommendations,” explained Karpowitz.
“If people wait until this fall to share their ideas with us, it will be too late in the process to give those ideas the consideration they deserve,” concluded Karpowitz.
The southeastern region meeting will take place March 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Green River.
The public meeting will be conducted at the John Wesley Powell Museum located at 885 East Main Street.
