Carbon County students prepare entries, compete at science fair

Students from Carbon High, Mont Harmon, Pinnacle Canyon and Helper Junior High recently participated in the annual science fair.
More than 130 individual projects and seven team displays were prepared for the event staged at Mont Harmon.
The science fair included entries in 14 categories and two divisions. People from the community who were knowledgeable in the carious areas served as judges for the event. The categories included behavioral and social science, biochemistry, botany, chemistry, computer science, earth and space science, engineering, environmental science, gerontology, mathematics, medicine and health, microbiology, physics and zoology.
Event organizers have announced the students placing at the science fair. The winning students include:
Behavioral and social sciences, junior division – Stephanie Koss, first place; Nathan Monson, second; and Tammy Erickson, third. Behavioral and social sciences, senior division – Christine Bedont, first place; Catie Thomas, second; and Adam Martinez and Vanessa Hunt, third place. All of the students attend Mont Harmon Junior High.
Biochemistry, junior division – Regina Tetreault, Pinnacle Canyon, first place.
Botany, junior division – Kami Durrant, Mont Harmon, first place; Brad Jones, Mont Harmon, second; and Neeka Greenwood, Mont Harmon, third. Botany, senior division – John Sampinos, Mont Harmon, first place; Brittany Banning, Mont Harmon, second; and Brandon Dadgari, Helper Junior High, third.
Chemistry junior division – Trisha Munns, first place; Latricia Pierce, second; and Kaydee Cotner, third. Chemistry, senior division – Anna Gramlich, first place; Christie Downard, second; and Tiffany Taylor, third. All of the winners in the chemistry category were from Mont Harmon.
Computer science, junior division – Luke Prince, first place. Computer science, senior division – Layne Prince, first place. Both winners in the computer science division are from Mont Harmon.
Earth and space sciences, junior division – Carrie Fleck, Mont Harmon, first place; Jordan Sonntag, Mont Harmon, second place; and Kelly Dunmire, Helper Junior High, third place. Earth and space sciences, senior division – Brad Bunnell, Carbon High, first place; Sheena Marshall, Mont Harmon, second; and Ashlee Curtis, Mont Harmon, third.
Engineering, junior division – Jordan Durrant, first place; Paul Goodrich, second; and Brett Johnson, third. Engineering, senior division – Houston Lui, first place; and Alan Milburn, second. Both winners in the engineering category were from Mont Harmon.
Environmental science, junior division – Kelly Broadbear, first place; and Bren Pruitt, second. Environmental science, senior division – Bryan Cowley, first place; and Teressa Quintana, second. All winners in the environmental science category were from Mont Harmon.
