The Carbon High diving team competed at the state championships this past weekend in Park City. The event took place Feb. 1 with each athlete competing quite well.
In the girls division, Lyn’D Anderson made it through the quarter final round and the semi final round, thus advancing her into the finals.
According to Carbon diving coach, Stewart Foster, Anderson performed very well up until the final dive. The Dino coach explained that he had wrote the numbers down wrong and the judges at the table who were conducting the scoring did not check the form out.
Anderson was then given a failed dive on her final performance because of the mistake which brought her from 12th place to 14th.
“This was Anderson’s first time at state and she did a great job just to make it into the finals,” stated Foster.
In the boys division, Derek Potter also made it past the quarter final and semi final rounds to advance to the final round. Potter placed ninth overall at the state event and received a medal for his outstanding effort.
“Potter looked better in all his dives at the meet than he did all year at the other events. He finished his 11 dives with a one and one half inward dive which he received scored of five and one half,” explained the diving coach.
Michael Glasson made it into the semi final round at the state event. He then missed the finals by only two places.
“This is the first year that Glasson has dived and he has learned really fast. Glasson is only a ninth grader at Mont Harmon and should have a bright future in the sport in the coming years,” concluded Foster.
