Michael Glasson performs a dive during practice earlier this year. Glasson recently finished in third place in the region and willmove on to compete at state this weekend along with teammates, Lyn’D Anderson and Derek Potter.

This year’s region diving competition took place in Tremonton at Bear River High School. The meet was comprised of both 5A and 3A schools who participated in the event, Jan. 24. The 4A school followed by competing Jan. 25 in Salt Lake City, thus staging the state final showdown which will take place this weekend.
In the 3A competition, the girls division was exciting. Carbon High diver, Lyn’D Anderson finished the region meet with a fifth place finish.
Anderson got scores of seven on both her back dive and inward dive. Any score above a six is considered nearly flawless. That is exactly what these two dives were. Anderson entered the water without a splash and with great form and technique which easily impressed the panel of judges.
The boys division was also exciting and intense. Carbon diver, Derek Potter placed second in the 3A division while Michael Glasson from Mont Harmon Junior High placed close behind Potter in third place.
Both boys did well as they each bettered their best over all score from the other meets this year.
The state championships will take place in Park City this Saturday. All three Carbon divers will compete at the event against all five division schools, 1A-5A.
