Chris Rigert lifts a model plane from a snowbank at the end of the Carbon County miniature airport runway Saturday. The members of the local Desert Wings club fly at the miniature airport almost every Saturday, weather permitting. The strip gets cleared after snowstorms and local club members are out in force as soon as the surface is dry. Most of the members enjoy the sport more in the winter than during the summer, not only because on good days the temperatures are more comfortable, but the cooler air makes the aircraft fly better.
