Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Flu vaccinations – Clinic hours at the health district in Price are Monday through Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Free radon detectors – are available at the public health district offices in Price. For information, call the health department at 637-3671.
HEAT program – Applicants for the federally funded energy assistance program must have identification, Social Security cards for all household members 18 years of age or older, copies of utility bills and proof of preceding month’s income for all employed people in the home. The program closes March 31. For information or appointments, contact the program at 613-0100.
Active Re-Entry drivers – The center needs volunteer drivers to transport people with disabilities to appointments, school and work on an as needed basis. Contact Active Re-Entry at 637-4950.
Foster Care Foundation – Carbon-Emery residents interested in becoming foster parents may contact Greg Cowan at 636-0210.
Parenting for teens – The Family Support and Children’s Justice Center in Price offers a free class dealing with the issues, problems and difficulties facing teen parents. Participants learn about available resources, assistance to help youth return/remain in school, parenting/life skills, cooking and recreation opportunities. Contact Terry Willis at 637-0281.
CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Frontier project – works to empower local families. The program needs youth mentors. For information, contact the project at 637-1497.
Carbon County Triad – meets the first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. at Price senior center. Members focus on law enforcement and aging programs to assist the elderly. Meetings are open to the public.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided. For information, contact the RSVP office at 637-9118.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Residents may contact the center by calling the 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Foster parents – The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.
Helper library – Hours are Monday through Wednesday from noon until 8 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday.For information, contact the library at 472-5601.
Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; closed Sunday. Story hour is Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Children Pet Pals activities are Tuesday, 5 to 5:30 p.m. Santa pictures are ready.The library is sponsoring a food drive for the local pantry through Jan. 11, 2003. CEU library -Hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.; Sunday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Hours vary on holidays and during breaks. Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Child Care Resource & Referral – offers information on becoming child care providers and referrals for parents, employees or employers needing related services. For information, contact the agency at 613-5619.
Helper mining museum – From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.
Prehistoric museum – From Nov. 1 to March 31, hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. From April 1 to Oct. 31, hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call the museum at 613-5060.
Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.
Social Security – Located at the county courthouse in Price, the office is open the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., excluding a half-hour lunch. For information, residents may call Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.
Emery archery league – Men, women and youth ages 10 and older may register for the county archery league Jan. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Emery recreation center, 75 S. 400 East, Castle Dale. For information, contact the county center at 381-2108.
