Maurine Freeman
GENOLA – Maurine Dustin Freeman, passed away on Dec. 18, 2002 in Payson.
She was born on June 7, 1920 in Price, the daughter of William S. and Sarah Adelaide Morley Dustin. She graduated from high school in Price during the Great Depression. Maurine married E. Milton Freeman in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 8, 1940. They lived together as man and wife for 62 years.
Maurine had always been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, from her Primary years throughout her adult life. She served in all of the organizations, including Relief Society president on two separate occasions. She was active in the stake Young Women’s camp program, where she went on the 17 mile hike over the Teton Peaks many years until she was 56 years old.
In 1984, Maurine and Milton served a mission in the Connecticut-Hartford area. In 1988, they served another mission to the Figi Islands, where they worked in the family history center. They spent two years in Spring, Texas, with their son Dallas and another two years with their daughter Millene in Richfield, then moved with their daughter Myrna in April 2002 to Genola.
She is survived by husband, Milton of Genola; four children, Mrs. Myrna Allen of Genola; Mrs. Marva Ward of Pocatello, Idaho; David Milton (Nanci) Freeman of San Diego, Calif.; Dallas Dustin (Penny) Freeman, of Spring, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myrle Engberson and Wilma (Weston) Hill. She was preceded in death by daughter, Millene Murphy; son, Daniel Morley Freeman, two granddaughters, Lynea Love Allen, and D’Lene Murphy; sister, Marilyn Lusk, and brother, William Dustin.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 21. at the Genola LDS Ward Chapel under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo. Interment followed in the Provo City Cemetery.
Lola Stevens
HOLDEN – Lola McKee Stevens, 81, passed away December 19, 2002 at the West Millard Care Center in Delta.
She was born May 15, 1921 in Holden to Vorda Angus and Nettie Hunter McKee. She married Earl 0. Stevens Sept. 11, 1941 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple March 19, 1965.
They are the parents of four children, Roy, Carolyn, Gale and Hal.
Lola spent most of her life in Holden, except when her husband served in WWII. She lived in Tooele and California.
She had a great love of sports and could always be found participating or watching some ball game. She loved music and enjoyed singing in choirs.
Her family was always important to her. Her husband Earl was her best friend and they spent lots of time fishing together and just enjoying life.
She was an active member of the LDS Church having served in various callings throughout her life. She and Earl served an LDS mission to Dublin, Ireland.
Lola is survived by husband, Earl, Holden; children, Roy (Kathie), Montpelier, Idaho; Carolyn (Thayne) Henrie, Delta; Hal (Sandy), Price;. 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lex (Phyllis) McKee, Holden; Jan (Carol) McKee, Bountiful; sisters, Bly Nixon and Dorene Ashby, both of Holden; and Voris Bennion, Bunkerville, Nev. She was preceded in death by daughter, Gale Caress; brothers, Chad and Riley; and sister, Roma Turner.
Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 23, at the Holden LDS Ward Chapel. Interment, Holden Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Mortuary.
Vera Zaremba
OREM – Vera Zaremba left this life on Dec. 5, 2002 to return to live in heaven with her husband, Hank. She was born March 19, 1919 in Monticello, the sixth child of seven born to John Henry “Bud” Jones and Alice Baker Jones.
Vera was raised in Price. She graduated from Carbon High School in 1938. After graduating high school, Vera attended the College of Eastern Utah, where she was among the first graduating class. Following her graduation, Vera moved to Salt Lake City and worked at Remington Arms Plant during World War II. It was there that she met Henry (Hank) Zaremba.
Hank and Vera were married in Price on Sept. 9, 1944. Shortly after their marriage, Hank was called to serve overseas in World War II. Vera then moved to Sunnyside and worked for the Kaiser Company until Hank returned from the war.
In 1947, Vera gave birth to the couple’s only child, Henry C. Zaremba Jr. They then moved from Sunnyside to Provo, where Vera and her older sister, Nona, started a company called Startups. After they sold the company, Vera went to work at PDM as a purchasing agent for the western states. Vera and her family moved from Provo to Orem. Vera retired from PDM.
Throughout Vera’s life, she has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a long-time member of the Vermont 2nd LDS Ward in Orem. Vera was also active with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, where she had many friends.
Also meeting her in heaven were two brothers and two sisters, Nona Aplanalp, Hilda Krissman, Myrel Jones and Harold Jones; and her parents, Bud and Alice. Vera leaves behind her only son, Henry Zaremba Jr.; four grandchildren, Brigitte (Bart) Chatelain, Travis (Lori) Zaremba, Tiffany (Chad) Phelps and Zachary (Katie) Zaremba; seven great-grandchildren, Chase, Garrett, Kaylee, Sadie, McKenzie, Alicia and Lexie. Vera is also survived by sisters, Elaine (Wesley) Jensen, Jean (Keith) Bertola; and niece, who was raised as a sister, Connie Toepp.
Vera’s family was where she found all her happiness. Vera will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Vermont 2nd LDS Ward in Orem. Interment, Provo City Cemetery under the direction of Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary of Orem.
