After losing a preseason battle against Ogden last month, the Lady Dinos were determined to get back into the swing of things this past week as they stepped up to compete in three games.
The Dinos entered the preseason ranked first in the 3A division. With odds on their side, the team feels pressure to prove the ranking correct. This is exactly what the team did this week as they went 3-0 against several powerful teams.
The Dinos kicked off the week on Thursday by competing on the road against Cottonwood, a strong Region 3 ball club. With what was expected to be a tight game, the Dinos blew the doors wide open as they played strong and defeated the Colts, 89-54.
The Dinos were lead by Chelsey Warburton who scored 33 points against the Cottonwood team.
Following her sister in scoring was Morgan Warburton who completed the preseason game with 23 points.
Also playing well for the Dinos was Ashely Rowley, a senior guard who scored 16 points to assist in the Dinos victory.
The following evening, the Dinos traveled to Castle Dale to kick off a weekend of exciting basketball action. The Dinos competed Friday night against Union, who is a strong Region 10 team.
The Dinos entered the game as they do most, determined. The Carbon girls played strong on both sides of the court and walked away with a 68-35 victory over Union.
Once again, the elder Warburton lead the team in scoring as she posted 22 points. The younger sister followed with 20 points of her own.
The final game of the week for Carbon took place Saturday in Castle Dale as the Dinos faced Ben Lomand. The Dinos continued their hot streak as they easily walked away with the 70-23 victory.
In the final game, the Dinos banned together as a team as 12 Carbon athletes scored during the competition.
Leading from the field was Chelsey Warburton who finished with 26 points, boosting her three day total to 81 points.
“Chelsey has done real well so far. She posted high scores each night, but her shooting ability is not the only talent she possesses. In fact, most of the points she scored came off of steals and other big defensive plays which she headed,” explained Dino’s head coach Bruce Bean.
The Dinos are not all about shooting however. In fact, Bean is quick to say that the team is playing well from all positions on the court.
“The team is doing really well. The defense is strong and has carried us to quite a few wins,” explained Bean.
The Dinos will continue to prepare for the regular season as they take on Uintah Tuesday evening. The team will then move on to compete in the Bear River Tournament this weekend.
“This is always a big tourney with strong teams competiting. We look forward to the experience,” concluded Bean.
