The East Carbon boys basketball team played their first game of the year last Tuesday evening when the Vikings traveled to Carbon High to play the Dinos sophomore team. New head coach Jeff Cisneros and assistant coach Rex Jepson hoped this game would tune the team up for the upcoming season in the division 1A Region 18 season. The youngster Dinos jumped out to a big lead early in the game and never gave it up, leading 40-10 at the half and finishing up with a 81-40 victory. It”s not uncommon in Utah to have sophomore teams at larger schools play varsity teams from smaller institutions during the preseason. Carbon sophomore teams competing against East Carbon varsity squads in girls volleyball have happened over the last few years in tournaments, but this was the first meeting of a Viking boys team and a Carbon team in quite a while.
