Helper Junior High principal Tom Montoya and Helper Police chief George Zamantakis hand out DARE graduation certificates to MaryAnn Cotters seventh grade students. Each year, Zamantakis teaches a course to junior high students about the importance of saying no to drugs and alcohol by explaining the consequences of using the deadly substances. Through roll play and classroom discussion, the students learn techniques which will enable them to stay away from drugs and alcohol and other serious situations. For the first time in the DARE programs history in Helper, 100 percent of the junior high class graduated from the program.
