Karate students compete in tourney

Students from a local karate school competed in the EKL Karate Showdown Open Championship in Woodscross Nov. 2. The students had a successful perfomance as many of them walked away with top awards. Athletes were ranked in divisions regarding their age and belt ranking. In the 10 year old brown belt division, Cheylee Montgomery placed third in sparring and third in kata. Brett Morgan placed fourth in both sparring and kata in the 15 year old purple belt division while Hyrum Cox finished in first place in both sparring and kata in the 18 year old green belt division. Megan Dayley finished fourth in sparring and second in kata in the blue belt eight year old division and Adam Cox placed second in sparring and fourth in kata in the 26 year old blue belt division. In the blue belt nine year old division, Sharon Mooseman placed first in sparring and second in kata while Breanna Hurdsman finished in second place in sparring and third in kata in the seven year old white belt division. Finally, Brooklyn Woodward placed second in sparring and fifth in kata in the white belt eight year old division and Brayson Hurdsman finished in fifth place in sparring and fifth place in kata in the five year old white belt category.
