Kevin Cline drives past a defender in a competition last season. This year, the Vikings will be under the direction of newly appointed head coach Jeff Cisneros as the team shoots for a state 1A title this season.

The question mark at East Carbon High has been answered that the answer is Jeff Cisneros.
Cisneros, known to many Carbon area fans as one of the coaches of the American Legion Baseball team in the summer and as an assistant coach for Carbon High football, was named the head boys basketball coach at East Carbon last week.
The year began with baseball coach Todd McFarland planning to be the new coach of the boys basketball team this year after Steve Gutierrez, who was the coach last year, left the school last spring. McFarland had assisted Gutierrez with the program last year.
McFarland, who has also been the Vikings head baseball coach the last few years, had a change of heart however, after the baseball season ended. He approached Principal Carol Wells and told her that he preferred not to coach the boys basketball team this year.
That is when the search started. The school got a number of applicants, and out of those Cisneros was selected.
The assistant coach for this season will be Rex Jepson, a teacher at the school. Utah High School Activities Association rules say that at least one person on the coaching staff must be a full time teacher at the institution from which a team comes. Cisneros works for Pacificorp at the Deer Creek mine in Huntington Canyon.
Practice/tryouts for the Viking basketball team began on Tuesday evening, with Cisneros and Jepson in charge.
