Dino divers jump into season action

By Sun Advocate

After missing the first six weeks of practice due to missing equipment, the Carbon High Dino divers jumped into season competition with very little practice behind them.
Because the diving boards which were ordered for the team did not arrive on time, the team was forced to sit on dry land until they arrived. When the boards did arrive however, the bolts used to attach them to the stands were the incorrect size. Despite the disappointments, the team mentally prepared for their first meet.
Competition began for the Dinos at Mt. Crest High in Hyrum. The team did have the chance to practice briefly before the event, but the team faired quite well despite getting a late start in the off season.
Derek Potter was one of 16 competitors in the Mt. Crest meet and he brought home seventh place honors. Potter successfully beat his score from last year at the same meet to represent Carbon in the winners bracket this year.
Lyn’D Anderson also bettered her score from last season as she placed 15th overall in the girls division.
Because practice time was cut short, the Dinos stuck with the basic dives. There was no time to work on the more advanced dives before this competiton however, now that the boards are in working condition, the team will improve their skills while developing new techniques.
With about three weeks left to practice before the next meet, the Dinos are looking for new team members. Anyone who is interested in diving for Carbon High this year is welcome to come and work out with the existing team members. The invitation is open to boys and girls in ninth to 12th grades. Interested divers should contact coach Stewart Foster at 637-0642 for more details.
The Dinos will hit the water again at the beginning of December and the team is expected to make waves this year in Region 8 competition.
