It had been 13 days since they had played against a Region 18 opponent and the whole time they were hoping that in their games against Wasatch Academy on Tuesday evening they would wipe the Lady Tigers out. They knew if they won and Tintic lost that same evening they would hold second place in the league all alone going into the region tournament later this week.
Well the wins came on Tuesday and the girls from the Sunnyside school beat up the team from Mount Pleasant in two sets; 15-8 and 15-2; 15-4 and 15-8.
Unfortunately the other half of their wishing didn’t. The Lady Miners, playing what probably is the weakest volleyball team in the 1A ranks won both their sets too. That means a tie for the runners up spot behind Dugway and a coin flip to see what place they go into the region playoffs on Friday in the salt desert town.
But that is really not much of a factor. What the Lady Vikes need to do well enough now is to play well enough to get through the tournament and get as high a seeding as they can at the state tournament that begins in Orem at Utah Valley State College on Nov. 1.
It’s a good bet that the girls from ECH will be in though. They have played well this season losing two games to Dugway and only one to Tintic on the Lady Miners home floor.
So here it is again. By Monday the community will be talking about who the girls will be matched up with at state.
And for the second time in a row the Lady Viking will be in the middle of a fight to make it to the championship game.
